The Cure for Corporate SEO Inertia…

If your monthly SEO reports look like this, you may want to stop trying to roll the organic SEO bolder up the hill and see if a local SEO strategy can work for your brand. I just posted some thoughts on this topic on Search Engine Land, Even If a Brand Can’t Do SEO, It Can Still Do Local SEO. While it’s not without its own unique complications, Local SEO programs often can operate without involving huge amounts of internal…

A Little Self-Promotion Never Hurts The SEO

LocalU just published an interview with your’s truly in advance of the LocalU event at Williamsburg I’ll be speaking at in March. If you were ever curious about how we make the donuts over here, I don’t think the interview will provide too much insight, but it sure beats trying to figure out what I am talking about all day on Twitter.

Stu MacFarlane Joins YP.com!

About 12 years ago, I took the 10 from Venice to the 110 to Pasadena and met with this guy at Idealab who had some crazy idea about sharing recommendations for local businesses with his neighbors via the Web. For some reason I bought the pitch and the next thing you know we’ve got 100,000 local reviews, we’re doing a syndication deal with Google Local, we launch one of the first pay-per-call ad programs, we spend way too much time on…

Ted created Development Counsellors International, the world’s first economic development marketing company. I don’t remember the exact origin of the company but I do recall the spark was when Ted, who I believe was a PR guy for the government of Puerto Rico,…

Facebook Likes You To Eat Local

Last week I was scrolling through the Notifications feed on Facebook’s iOS app and was surprised to see the above “Nearby Places for Breakfast” list showing 3 restaurants in the area with their hours, rating, price, etc. Hitting the “see more” link brings up a full list of nearby restaurants that looks just slightly Yelp-ish: This screenshot was taken at 4:14pm so now instead of showing “Nearby Places for Breakfast” I get “Nearby Places to Eat”.  Earlier in the…
